The Photo That Started It All
This website came about as a result of my intense desire to capture unique photos, even if my technique isn’t always the best (or safest or smartest or…). At the time, climbing that tree to get a closer shot seemed like a really good idea but after almost falling and dropping my equipment, maybe not. I did, though, manage to get a great reaction from a young osprey as we stared face to face at about 40 yards. I think the osprey (like my wife) was trying to figure out, “what the heck is this old guy doing?”!
A friend and professional wildlife photographer suggested, after seeing this photo, that I consider putting together a website to share more photos, stories and tips. “At the very least”, he said, “your stories are entertaining!”
So here it is! I hope you enjoy this site!
Disclaimer: the equipment, tips and stories I share are intended to give you a starting point for ideas and inspiration. What I am sharing has worked for me but may not be right for you. As always, do your own research and set your budget and goals to see what is best for you. Also, think twice, before climbing that tree!

My wife and I were blessed to end the year at one of our favorite spots, Sax Zim Bog. Located in northern Minnesota and a fantastic area to find and photograph wildlife! On this trip, we were hoping to find the Great Gray owl. We were not disappointed as we were able to see 3 different owls including this one catching a meal.
Sax Zim Bog Adventure!
I get asked often what is Sax Zim Bog and why do you go there? Hopefully this video will give you a small taste of why my family loves to spend time in the winter at this wonderful part of northern Minnesota!
