I have been blessed to experience some beautiful places over the years! Hiking and backpacking allow me to go into nature where we are the minority. As a result, I have been able to see landscapes and wildlife not yet tainted by mankind. Nature at it’s finest! Unfortunately, the older I get, the less pristine it seems even places like the BWCA (boundary waters canoe area) are becoming. Hopefully together, we can help educate future hikers and backpackers to what it means by, “leave no trace”!
My early trips, were way before the digital age so there are not many photos of those to share. More recently, I have started carrying photography equipment and have shared some of these trips below. I am planning to do even more, including video, on future trips.
As you probably noticed, I also enjoy cold weather camping. Why would anyone want to sleep overnight, in a tent, in the winter? Good question and one my wife has even asked (although she enjoys winter day hikes). My answer is that winter camping is refreshing, a way to see nature in a different kind of beauty, a bit challenging but leaves you with a sense of accomplishment! I am planning a couple nights in the BWCA in early February so hopefully I can capture some of this for you.
