An enjoyable overnight backpack trip to Mille Lacs Kathio State Park. We hiked in to the Kanketanka site and were pleased with the beautiful fall views and solitude (with the exception of occasional vehicle noise from hwy 169). This backpack site overlooks a woodland pond and is surrounded by thick woods. I really liked that the firepit location allows you to enjoy great views of the pond while sitting by the fire. The hike in from the parking lot is only about 1.7 miles so this is a nice trip if you are new to backpacking or trying out new equipment.

Jonah set to head off into the wilderness! Ok maybe just to our campsite but still close to a couple miles.

Jonah checking the map to see if we are lost...er on track.

Our private campsite.

Nice smooth and level pad for the tent.

Beautiful view of the pond next to our site!

Another view of the pond.

Jonah enjoying a rest after our hike in and camp setup.

Short rest and back to work.

Pretty good start considering the wood was fairly wet.

Time to relax and enjoy the evening!
