I am happy to say we had a successful weekend even though we didn’t spot any grey owls. In fact, our owl spotting adventure didn’t present us with any owls this time but did offer many other unique sightings. The weather was a bit overcast Saturday but with the light snow, it was beautiful and the wildlife was abundant. Sunday brought lots of sunshine and more photo opportunities before we headed home. All total, we put in about 286 miles of driving around the bog, but stopped often to check out the boardwalks, search for tracks and hike some of the fantastic trails.
Sarah and I got some nice photos and were thrilled to see ermines and a red fox along with a wide variety of birds. We both got first time photos of Common Redpolls, Evening Grosbeaks and Ruffed Grouse. Also spotted a Goshawk and Red-tailed hawk but were unable to get any shots of those.
Winter at the bog really is something everyone can enjoy! If you don’t like to hike or do cold weather things, you can experience the beauty and charm right from your warm vehicle. But…, there is something about breathing in that fresh, pine scented air as you hike, ski or snowshoe through the endless trails!
